Timing Cover Seals-Recommendations?
I need advise as to the best Timing cover (frt cover) seals
(Crank, Water pump, Distributor) to purchase.
OEM, National, Felt-pro, etc? I'm looking for long term results.
Thank You
Hank

When I replaced the waterpump and opti (gen I) many years ago I used OEM waterpump and opti seals.
Is this your first attempt at the cover and seals?
Moving forward:
I figured, I'll turn the crank until I'm at TDC with cylinder #1,(verified by taking off the opti cover and viewing the location of the rotor) Mark the hub to the timing cover and also measure the distance from the edge of the crank shaft to the hub (my piece of mind) then remove the hub. I'm expecting to be able to remove and install the hub w/o lifting the engine.. fingers crossed. I'm also expecting to see some sort of a casting indicator on the hub that defines TDC. Drop the frt of the oil pan, remove timing cover. View for wear on all the shafts that touch the seals. Replace timing chain and anything else that looks worn. I'll also mark the sprockets/gears. They should all be pointing to TDC. Installing the seals would be easier with the cover off. I'll make sure to apply a thin coat of rtv around the metal of the seal that meets with the cover. Installing the cover is questionable.. I figured Ill add a thin coat of oil to just the crank seal and use the water pump tool (dry fit) on the water pump seal. Also apply a thin coat of gasket sealer to one side of cover gasket. Granted, I will be thoroughly cleaning all the surface areas prior to assembly.
I have the Kent-Moore LT1 hub remover/installer and the water pump seal tools. I did purchase the seals separately.
Wow I just realized how long this is getting.
In any event, please feel free to comment.
thx
Hank
