Anyone have any advice on troubleshooting a crusie control problem on a 88 vette. Doesn't work at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thought it might be one of those well know problems.
Not sure exactly where, but there is a vacuum line that controls the A/C and there is a tee for the cruise control. If the vacuum line is cracked, the cruise won't work. Gordon Killebrew gave a tech seminar on this at the Cruise In.
I also fixed mine by just cleaning the contacts on the plug. I also took it apart and blew out the insides with compressed air. There is also an oring seal inside the actuator that can crack or go bad.
I had an inoperable cruise control on my 86. It would not do anything. After checking just about everything, it turned out to be a broken contact in the stalk. The "coast" button felt like it was working but the contact had come loose and was always in the "coast" mode. A new stalk was in order but I "temporarly" repaired it and sold the car soon after.

This happened to me. The cruise was inoperable and the A/C blew out of all vents no matter what the selection was. I band-aided the line and all is fine now.
The line is behind the distributor on the drivers side. Mine broke a few inches from the tee while changing the wires. I band-aided it b/c I don't know where the other end goes, firewall maybe, but luckily it wasn't too far down. Pretty tight and dark back there. :D

I have the intake off and see the line goes into a wire loom behind the block and that loom goes into the firewall. I have only 3 inches of line that stick out of the loom. I'll look inside and see if I can find the line w/o taking the dash apart......yea right!
