While reading codes in CCM when troubleshooting a PKE problem, I got a code 72. This has something to do with LCD dimming. My car had an aftermarket radio in it when I bought it (poorly installed) which I have replaced. I have only got a sys flash in the LCD when I had a bad alternator and the battery got low. sys hasn't flashed any other time. I have noticed that the LCD will flicker/dim every now and then.
My question is, do you think I should install the resistors in the power line and ignition line like I read about in the audio section? Has anybody installed these? It looks like the lines to install the resistors in is behind the radio in the dash. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
Does the car start? Sounds like a VATS problem. The PO may have had a by-pass on the after market stereo. You will probably have to do the same.
The panel dimming is probably a ground. Is it the dash, or the diagnostics? Seems like, with the lack steel on these cars, what steel is there, rusts twice as bad, and twice as fast, so grounds are a common problem. h
The car starts fine. The PO wired the stereo with power connections for the head unit connected in storage compartment behind passenger seat. I bought a connector that was put in the storage compartment and ran lines up to head unit. Don't think PO bypassed anything.
I'll check the IP grounds. I think they are grounded on the drivers side kick panel area??
As far as the resistors that are mentioned in the audio section these might help clear the DTC 72 that I ran across. Was just seeing if anyone has installed these resistors and where they put them.
