Okay...I've seen some positive and negative replies on the Hypertech Stage II chip that I purchased to install. If all it's really going to make a difference with is turning my fans on sooner and adjusting the fuel curve at wide-open throttle, I wonder if it's worth the $200 I paid for the chip.
What is the best chip for your money? I know each person's experience is probably unique, but I'm not aware of what the other chips are capable of.
I put a fastchip in my '85 4+3. The chips are made by Ed Wright exclusively for GM cars. Several members have them I've noticed. When I first installed it my vehicle idled a little high, I called Ed, sent the chip back for recalibration, and it works sweetly. I can't endorse this chip over others, but he took care of the problem pronto. I believe a forum member makes chips, but I'll let him or another member sing his praises. I noticed SOTP difference through all RPM ranges and more torque at low end than with the stock chip. :seeya
hypertech chip stage 2 changed my shift points mostly. There was a slight drop in low end power but after you shift into second its a whole different story. I would rather have a custom chip but i figured for now its a 200 dollars well spent. Im happy with it and was pretty shocked at the over all acceleration differences. The other thing about the higher end hypertech chips, they are useless if you dont have a fair amount of mods to your car. I have a few basics, but i will definately expect the chip to be more useful as i modify my car more.
Hi,
His website is http://www.fastchip.com (I designed it ;) and his turn around times are normally same day. I had one in my 95 GMC truck and can also praise his good work.
Wow...thanks! I just got off the phone with them and will be placing my order for one of their chips tomorrow morning. According to the individual I spoke with, Ed's chips will outperform Hypertech's chips. Hypertech's chips seem to only tell the fans to come on sooner and don't do much for performance except at wide-open throttle.
I love these boards!!! Unfortunately, not getting much work done today hehe

I would love to know how the chip changed your shift points. The L98 Tranny is controlled by the TV cable. The computer ONLY controls the lockup speed.
I have been absolutely amazed at the quality of the Formato chip and the excellent after-sale service that they have provided. I went from mid to high 11's to low 11's just by going to the Formato chip.
