Do you get a resonance on your car with the PE exhaust? I have the PE with hooker headers so im trying to figure out if its the exhaust or the combination of headers/exhaust because i get a resonance around 1800rpms. Would adjusting the exhaust eliminate some of the resonance?
Also, would a cross over pipe in place of the resonator eliminate some of the resonance?
Re: Power Effects owners inside please. (IcemanZ06)
I've had mine on for five years, Best sound out there. No resonace for me
at any rpms, although on long trips I do keep the chambers closed, theres
a noticable difference in all the settings, I have no crossovers either.
I don't know how many times over the years people have asked me about my Power Effects they do draw alot of attention. I had Borlas on it for a day,
talk about resonace, I took those off shipped them back exchanged them
for the Power Effects, my best move made.
good luck  :D
Re: Power Effects owners inside please. (IcemanZ06)
Have specially made 3" Power Effects with long tubes, 3" high flow cats, xpipe and no resonator. Keeping the exhaust closed on highway trips does cut the noise to a tolerable level. Cannot imagine having another exhaust with my set up. Do not have any resonance at all with it shut at 1800 RPM's. With the exhaust open at 1800 RPM's there is alittle resonance but having the 4.09 gears helps out in 6th gear at 70MPH.

There's a resonance which is between about 1800-2100 on mine. This resonance was there prior to the TPIS header install, but not as loud as it is with the headers and random cat on. The greatest thing about this system is that you can tune out the resonance to your liking by closing the system up. This is definitely the best mod I've ever done to the car. It draws attention when open. It's close to stock quiet when closed.
I want to rig a remote operation so I can close them down when I'm stuck in traffic at 65MPH.
Me too. I was thnking along the lines of an electric motor operating 2 cables....some limit switches....total control from the driver seat. :D
Had a enjoyable conversation recently with Joe Markovicz from Power Effects.. They are dilligently working/testing on a remote option and plan (with luck) to have it to market by the end of this year or sometime next year. No price yet, but it will be electrical with some kind of remotely mounted motor.
Seemed like we could have talked for hours but I was at work so couldn't stay on too long.. :) How about that for great customer support? And all I did was send an E-Mail asking if there was a remote option available.
Yeah.. I know.. I've got flowmasters.. But I do have my new Power Effects sitting in the entry way waiting for me to have time to install them.. :)

I had a rattle in one of the capsules when it was first installed. Joe bent over backwards to fix it. All companies should have as good customer service.
For remote operation, I was just thinking of a couple of cables connected to a lever arm. It only needs a 90* throw. I'd mount it under the front edge of the seat. I don't think it needs to be very complicated. It'll probably only need 2 positions :D .

I put PE & Random Tech high-flow cat onto my '86. At first, it sounded great. Then, the resonance became annoying. With my manual trans & 3.07 rear, normal crusing speed on highways was right in the middle of the 1800-2100 rpm resonance range. Listening to steady resonance for 1/2 hr quickly looses it's appeal (PE was always at quietest setting).
I traded the Random Tech cat back to a regular cat, and that got rid of some of the resonance. But was still annoying on highway. Since I was redoing my interior, I laid 2-3 layers of sound absorbing material throughout the interior before I put the carpet and seats back in (see my web site below, the 'and in goes the new' link). This made a big difference. It sounds pleasant on local roads, and is bearable on highways (I can even hear the stereo now). Still have to talk a little louder to have a conversation with a passenger.
'mshipon' also has, I believe, a '94. He put on PE's last year. He was quickly getting rid of them however, due to the resonance. He took me for a ride, and it really was unbearable. He went for a rid in my car, and said if they sounded like mine, he'd keep them. His wife and daughter wouldn't ride in the car anymore. His interior was in good condition, so he had no reason to tear it out and put in sound proofing.
But there are plenty of PE owners on this forum that say they're fine, with no resonance (maybe they've lost their hearing? :) ) One forum member mentioned that resonance went away totally when he upgraded (his L98) with large-tube intake runners. So changes to the airflow may change or eliminate the resonance.
You'll be taking your chances with PE. The owner of the company told me about half of the buyers complain they're too loud (likely referring to the resonance), and the other half say they're too quiet. He did mention they tried crossovers, and they didn't help with the resonance. But again, changing anything in the air path might work.

Hmm.. Interesting.. I'm hoping it will be an improvement over the flows I have. Talk about resonance. Feels like my head is inside a drum with twenty guys banging on it. Not that I mind. :) Sounds great on the outside though.
My wife refuses to ride with me in mine so that's why I compromised and bought Power Effects hoping I can tune it to where she would at least sit in the same car with me. And when ever I get the bug for some noise, I could open them up. :)

My experiences were slightly different. I did not do large tube runners alone, but did the whole SuperRam setup (base, runners and plenum). It got slightly louder following the intake swap. I don't mind the resonance because the closed setting to me is very quiet. I can simply switch settings if it ever gets too loud. Settings 2-3 are not too bad either for quieting down the resonance but keeping the growl. It's nice to have these options IMHO.
