Default 96 steering rack

Finally got to my steering rack tonight. what a battle. I did my 86 2 years ago and it was simple compared to the 96. The 2 nuts on the passenger side suck to get an open end wrench on the bottom, I clamped a vise grip to a 13mm wrench to reach in there with. Then the long thru bolt on the driver side hits the steel line from the steering fluid box. Had to take the bolts out of the clamps that hold this line in so I could move just a bit to allow the bolt to come out. The 2 hydraulic lines were easy, use a crow foot. Now the fun begins. I can't seems to wiggle it out. I am getting hung up on the spline that slots into the intermediate shaft. This is like ones of those puzzles were there is only one possible way to position it to come out. would help if I had a friend. I also took the alternator off to make some room and I have the water pump off. Just going to remove everything I think. anyone remember exactly how they wriggled the rack out? what sequence of turn, then pull, then twist. guess I'll keep playing the game. 2 hours so far so not bad I guess. The cocktails help

I think, on my 89, that I had to push it to the passenger side, then slide it out of the driver's side. I did remove my crank pulley and sway bar to get some more room. I also had to remove the power steering cooler bolts and let the cooler hang down. It was a hell of a fight, but it will come out.

Thank you......

I had to take the large pulley off as well...but your description nailed it for me....

I have never done a steering rack before so there has been a lot of guessing along the way.....so this job took all damn day....well from about lunch till about an hour ago with other daily chores mixed in....
