Default &#%@** taillight!!

I've owned my '86 since it was new and the other day one of the inside taillights went out. The manual says to go thru the license plate hole and take off the bracket. It has a really nice drawing and I understand all the instructions but how does one get ones arm thru the hole to do the job? I can get my hand in there but that is it. Do they expect a child to do this job? HELP!!

dont listen to that &#%@ workshop manual !

is it the inside or outside bulb ? if its the inside bulb, take the cover off the fuel inlet cover (4 x screws and pull off the rubber) and reach in from there, its much easier than the number plate hole,
if its the outside bulb, you may have to lie under the car and reach up under the underneath of the bumper to reach it.

I forgot to mention that I tried that also. That hole is smaller then the license plate hole!

ok, I have had to change out the outside and inside bulbs a couple of times,
the only way i could do the outside was jack up the rear of the car, slide under the bumper directly under the bulb, and reach up to the bulb block, its a slight twist turn and out it comes, but its tight between the bumper and the alloy bracket.

In addition to removing the license plate, I also have to remove the clear backup light lens next to the license plate (just 2 7mm screws). Even then, it's tight and I scratch my arms up, but I can get in that way.

This is how I do it and I'll bet you my arms are bigger than yours Pres.

Small hands and arms really help.

I couldn't reach it, but my wife could. If you can find a small helper it is worthwhile.

Good luck.
