Opinions from audio experts needed, please!!
2. " " Hollywood amps?
3. Wouldn't a 6.5 coax sound better in the rear using the stock ported inclosure, than cutting it and putting in 6x9's?
4. What about using a 6.5 mid-bass (45-6000 HZ) in the rear?
5. How hard is it to modify the front to take a 5.25 and seperate tweeter in the stock location? A lot of cutting or not? Can I put the crossover in the enclosure behind the speakers or will it have to be outside under the carpet along the fram rails?
6. Do I need to worry about speaker depth or are the stock enclosures plenty deep?
7. What size power cable and speaker wire do I need for a 4x75W RMS amp?
2.no
3.I personally like the sound of a seperately sealed speaker, the bass is much cleaner and it helps get rid of speaker flutter, but that is just a personal preferance, both will sound good, but Inclosed will probally take more wattage, but I don't think you are going to get to a wattage where that would matter,
4.I think the best set-up would be to put 6X9's in the rear but integrate a set of subs in the hidden compartment (if you need help with that just ask via e-mail), if you have a deck with FIE then it really would be a good idea to put the 6X9's in the rear other than just the mids as you can send only bass to them but you can also send all frequencies also and let it still sound good. For instance rap and R&B sounds best in FIE mode with bass in the back and mids and treble in the front, BUT Clasical, soul, easy listening sounds best with bass, trebble, and mids all the way around.
5.depends on your skill level. what alot of people do that want to do what you are doing, they remove the bose speakers, cut out the top of the compartment and make a filler plate, install your speakers to that plat and then install that plate to the rest of the original enclosure. Yes, there is cutting involved with doing it this way. Depends on what type of crossover you get. It would be best to have the crossover in an accessable area as tuning it would be easier.
6. Pretty sure the depth is fine, but not possitive.
7. 18-24 should do fine
Yes theyre nice but you can do better for the money.
The stock rear enclosure does not have enough cu in to support a larger midrange speaker. But you are correct sound quality is better with component seperates than with 6x9s. Although I ran Eclipse 6x9s in a custom plate in my 84 coupe with suprisingly good results.
Im not sure what you mean. To reproduce sounds down at 45 hz you need a woofer/subwoofer. Without the specs for a specific speaker you cant determine an enclosure size but in that car you will take up some room. An easy fix is to go with an amplified tube sub. 6" will do 8" will be more than enough and 10 " is too much (I know).
I think you can sqeeze a 5.25 in there and there is room for a crossover where the stock amp would be. You would have to consider the enclosure depth again i think plates would be an ideal instll method. Consider putting tweeters under the grilles on the dash. Glass is excellent at reflecting sound and will eliminate any harshness in a small cabin like a vette.
If youre going to use a cap. I say 8 Ga. power/ground and 14 Ga. speaker.
