Water in fuel
I've had my C4 for a few months now, an '86 that's stock, minus cat removal. It's been doing very well so far until this past Tuesday, when it laid down.
I started it to leave work, stopped to talk to a friend, and the car just died, wouldnt restart. I got it trailered home, hooked up the fuel pressure gauge and found water in my lines. Had to take the sending unit out, dump a full tank of fuel, and clear the lines. Luckily for me once i purged the water from the fuel rails the engine started without issue. I was afraid the injectors might have failed. I put a bottle of HEET in the tank, will do it on the next fill up and then run 3ozs of acetone through it for the next 10 or so tanks to really clean up the system.
thought #1 - I filled up on Thursday and the car died Tuesday, if I picked up water when i filled up, I would think it would've acted up sooner.
thought #2- It's been raining non stop, and Tuesday, I parked in a spot with a slight incline which left the nose of the car a bit higher than the rear. I'm thinking water intrusion is my culprit. While I had the sending unit out I used gasket sealer on the gasket and cleaned it up well. It looked a bit wet. The next thing I did was replace the fuel cap to make sure it didnt get in there somehow. Am I missing something? Is there another spot water might have gotten in? if thats what happened?
