Every time I hit the starter I hear a knock, it's been doing this way before I changed out the opti, timing chain ect. Could it be a bad knock sensor? Seems like Its coming from drivers side...other then that it seems to run fine.
knock sensor does nothing during cranking. Engine has to be running.
Is there a chunk of debris in the converter cover/guard? I had a starter break off a piece of the nose and that would rattle around in the TC cover when the flywheel teeth caught it and threw it against the tin cover...it might lay there for days then the right bump would send it to the flywheel again and rattle around for a while until it settled or I shut down.
The ECM advances the timing when the engine starts to test the knock sensor(s) and ESC circuit. If it doesn't see at least two knocks it will set an error code.
