I just noticed tonight that my service engine light came on, just looking for suggestions on how you all might deal with it before taking it off to a service tech. would you disconnect battery positive cable first? I know that once i had this light come on and the dealership did the battery cable and charged me 55 dollars and said that it had to be reset and it has not been on since and that was over a yr ago and the car has been running great....Juat some input guys....thanks so much in advance .
Ray, I would like to find out what code set before clearing it. Go to a good service station and talk nice to them and I bet they might hook it up to their scanner and tell you the code for free. I would be happy to hook my scanner up to it if you drive up here.
Just use the paper clip trick to read the codes. There are plenty of threads to give you the procedure. That will give you an idea of what's up for free! :yesnod:
Yes, I believe it will work fine on the OBDII...just bridge A to B , turn on ign. and watch for codes. Kragen sells the autoxray for $159. that will work on your car. It sure is a lot of help in getting to the problem.
Pete..I think autoxry makes a unit for the OBDII system....but I stand corrected on the price. It will work with the OBDI system also....the price is up around $300+ tho....
