Did the heads have guide plates on a '90? I pulled my heads off last weekend and they had them. They also had aligning rockers though. Just curious, but I didn't think any came like that from the factory.
My 92 LT1 has self aligning rockers and guide plates. According to Jeff Kopp, the plates were installed by te factory to assist in assembly. No big deal, run them both.

Hmm.. i was under the impression that self aligning and guide plates together were a bad idea. (specifically with the 1.6 RR's in the LT4 and others)
Yea, same thoughts here....after helpin' on a friends 90 and getting a close look it seems the factory guide plates have a bigger gap than aftermarkets-so I guess that's why it's OK to run it that way???

:yesnod: You'll have to change the guide plates if using non-self aligning rockers.
The factory installed these for assembly only. The are not hardened, have a wider slot and cannot be used for non-aligning rockers. It would be a bad idea to run hardened guideplates and self-aligning rockers.
