what is better for open tracking, hot lapping. a 96 C4, or a C5 (not ZO6)

Well, this is just personal opinion, but I'd stick with the C4. At our last NCCC High Speed event at Hallett, I think I had the 4th fastest time overall in my slightly modded 92. The only real mods to my car are a VB performance spring up front, and 17x11" rear wheels. If you are looking at an LT4, the HP should actually be about the same as a C5, whereas mines actually a little less (270RWHP). I guess a lot of it depends on what you are wanting to do. Are you interested in running NCCC? SCCA? Other sanctioning groups? Or is this just for fun/lap days? If it's for an actual group like NCCC, then check the rules. I think most of those groups separate C4s from C5s, so it really just becomes a matter of which you prefer. I prefer the C4 because it feels more like a sports car to me, and it is a lot cheaper to mod and repair.
