Default AIR/EGR delete, 1992 vette

Sorry for all the posts lately, I'm new to working on cars...

I have Exotic Muscle longtubes coming in soon for my '92, which is 100% stock. I've been reading a bunch of threads on here about deletion of AIR and EGR. It seems like a good idea, especially considering I live in Massachusetts and don't need to pass emissions!
It will also clean up the engine bay a little bit.

My plan is to get a chip from pcmforless.com that takes the headers, AIR delete, and EGR delete into account.

Instead of removing the stuff, would it be a better idea to just disconnect it? I'm a newbie, I need advice from experienced people!

Thanks,

Vinnie

Note: I don't need to pass emissions so I will be removing the cats with header extensions from EM.

Vinnie,

I just went through this about 6 months ago on my '93. The only way to really "disconnect" the AIR/EGR, is really to remove all the components; you wont get that "clean" look unless you do. Especially if you are installing the EMs and you dont have the bungs to connect the EGR back up, it will just be in the way. Best way is to remove it all and get EGR blockoff plates and install on the back of your intake. Send me a PM if you would like/have any more questions.

Agree totally. You probably won't get the choice to keep this stuff because you will find out when trying to remove it to get the stock cast iron manifolds off it will be destroyed. All this stuff gets continual heat cool cycles and rusts its self together making it impossible to remove w/o destroying it, if you want to keep it most likely you will have to buy new stuff if you can even find it or be very careful and very slow in removing it being careful not to break or strip anything.
You won't miss the AIR or EGR at all, it will really improve access to spark plugs, wires etc dramatically, you will be glad it is gone and never look back.

Very good point, my car has 115k miles and the manifolds are extremely rusty. I really don't want the AIR or EGR at all, as long as it's safe to remove them both I probably will. I'd love to have a clean engine bay too.
