Default 700R4 acceleration tips.

So after asking a few questions an wasting people's time , I recently finally found a Accel base and had my stock runners ported.(professionally to match the base, theres about 6mm left of cast on the outlet/inlet of the runners)

So I'm getting my vette ready for this spring/summer

Just wanted to see who has had the best expierence of launching a L98with the 700R4 and how to put those 3.07's to its full potential without so much spinning.

I run about 27psi on the street with a set of Sumitomo's 275/40/17 in the rear and launch about 2,000rpm.

Does the job especially with the trans-go shift kit. But is shifting " manually" better?

Only way to know is to try.

Go thru the gears in auto and "feel" the power band. This is SOTP but its a good way to learn the car. See where it wants to jump...what RPM...Mine has a helluva surge at 3000, so I run each gear past that so the next gear as it engages will be at over 3000 so it will pull hard from there up.
You have to learn to manually upshift so the gear drops on the peak power point in the rpm band. It takes some practice but you'll pick it up eventually. You want to go past that hard pull enough so the next gear falls right in the best spot in the rpm range...not upshift in the sweet spot, but let the next higher gear hit that spot. Takes practice.

If you are not running at a drag strip where you get to burn out and warm the tires up, you will need to learn to feather the throttle and slowly depress it until you get enough speed up not to spin the tires. It takes a while to get used to, but once you learn the car you will pick up acceleration without spinning the tires.

After lots of runs down the track, Ive found my trans is smarter than me. My best ets come with the 700r4 shifting itself. I do have the governor modded so it shifts at 6000 rpm. Motor is not stock. TPIs ten to like shifting at 5000 or so, depending on mods.

A4 , 3.07 ,2K stall
I needed MT ET streets to get consistent launch results. My street tires would 60ft the same times "when" they hooked but it was a 1 in 5 chance of it happening
Ran 1.8X 60 ft times all day nailing it from idle ( flash the convertor ).
No tire warm up ,just a spin to throw the water off because can not drive around the bleach box
Loading up the convertor resulted in slower 60 ft times
And with a T700 /TPI, don't try holding 1st manually, with the low 3.07 1st gear I found the revs come up so fast you can't shift into 2nd before getting past the power band
Best times on any TPI I had, stock or modded ( 150+ runs ) was shifting at 4500ish, engine would rev higher but trap times were slower

So you buy two spare rims and only run them to / at the track
Are street usable but too soft ( wear ) for a DD unless you like buying new tires often

You have never looked ?
That is how you judge your launch technique and traction, prob more relevance to your original question
than your ET given a drag race is won or lost on the start
The faster your 60 ft time the lower the ET will be

Tires, tires, tires. /thread

For the track I use MT DRs and on the street I use BFG TA/KD. Unfortunately they no longer make the TA/KD so my next street tire will likely be Nitto NT05
