If you pull your radiator cap it will drain faster. Some may be left in the heads and manifold as you pull them, and is one of the reasons for not draining the oil til the end. I also will just put in some cheap oil run it a hundred miles or so, then change it again with the good stuff. You can use your old filter for the hundred miles, then put in a new one for the good oil. h

Its the valve at the bottom of the radiator that is used to drain it. https://www.google.com/search?q=radi...w=1022&bih=683
On older models you turn it counter clockwise several turns, and on newer cars its just a 1/4 turn and pull. Newer ones are the black butterfly looking valves.

There is about a gallon, and a half. I just use a short (4-5in tall) tote I got from walmart. An oil drain pan will work too. I just throw away the old antifreeze, and its a good Idea to just replace it with water, til you know everything sealed. I personally just run water in the summer months, and probably could have just ran it all winter, since we only had one day of below freezing weather. h

Default keep us posted

doing this now; replacing both head gaskets, plugs, injectors, etc. It was a son of a b**** to get off, I'll tell you. I'm decent with a wrench, but luckily have a neighbor who has helped immensely. I'm hoping to finish it this weekend, and try to warm up after working in a cold garage during the winter. Car looks a mess right now; also have the seats out and dash apart. Painting the seat backs, and trying to chase down a problem in the (aftermarket) stereo system.

Common problem for this year.

You need to get the coolant out of the block because if there's exhaust in it, it will just make up another lethal mix which is usually the reason the head gasket went in the first place. To do that, remove the oil filter coolant hose on the left and the knock sensor on the right. Drain the heater core too by removing the lower hose. If you're only going to do one side, remove the Fan Switch or Gage Sender from the head you're not doing. If the coolant passageways in the head are plugged up with gunk or galvanic corrosion, so is the radiator. You're choice to replace or flush it out but they don't cool very well when they're plugged up.

Change the oil. Coolant will destroy the bearings.
