Anyone have recommendations on pistons for about 8-10psi? I have AFR aluminum head with 9.3:1 CR. Also, does my 85 have forged pistons right from the General?
There is not much info on the subject. When I ordered the restoration package from GM they sent 3 photo copied manuals. One included the 1985 Corvette Specification manual. The "MVMA Specification Form Passenger Car" issued 10-84 and revised 3-85. These are the Engineering specs that were submitted to the government EPA/ NTSB and so forth.
Pistons--Material and Mass- "Impacted Forged Aluminum" (20.4 Oz)
That is the only info I have found on the subject. If any one had a similar package for an 87 or other year what would the description indicate? I replaced the heads on my 85 and the pistons after a little clean up of the carbon look mint at 130K miles.
Hi GRX,
I don't have the capability of scanning over 100 pages of information, but here is a link to a thread I posted last August. It may help to get the information you need. If you need any particular info I maybe able to provide it.
Stock 82, 84, 85 and 86 Corvettes with iron heads all use the same TRW #464664 forged pistons. I think the same pistons were used on 70-71 Corvettes with 10.25 compression. They used smaller cylinder head chambers.
