I am changing out the steering rack in my LT4 and the hose that goes from the power steering fluid reservoir to the power steering fluid cooler has a chewed up section in it. Its right where the hose leans against the mount for the rack. This seems like it will just happen again as the hose really rubs against the bolt here. anyway, I have not been able to locate this hose in any of the catalogs. I dont think it's anything special as it just slides on for both end connections. There is a regular radiator hose clamp holding it to the fluid reservoir and the clamp holding it to the cooler is a crimped on clamp, it's similar to the clamp used on the EGR for the older c4's. I am not sure how to get this clamp off and can I just replace it with a regular radiator hose clamp. I am sure I can get in there with a screwdriver to spread out the crimped part and slide it off but I don't want to damage anything on the cooler. Is there a special tool to remove and put a new one on. what is the name of these clamps. Not having a whole lot of mechanical experience, these are the stupid little things I struggle with. I get the whole rack out but I don't know how to get a clamp off. anyway, thanks. any advice/ideas would be great
Bringing this up from the dead to ask pretty much the same question. On my 96, I think I have a small leak on the return hose between the cooler and reservoir where (or near where) it attaches to the cooler. Since it has a crimp-style (single-ear or double ear?) hose clamp at the cooler, I'm assuming it's original to the car. It looks like stores sell this as bulk hose that just gets cut to length and then attached with hose clamps. There does not appear to be a dedicated part for this hose. Is that correct?
