1988 Corvette convertible with 5690 miles, original owner. Driver's seatbelt won't extend. Any ideas on how to fix or if anybody reconditions this item. Illinois is an automatic ticket if they catch you without your belt on. Anybody else have this problem and fix it themselves or a find a reputable company fixing them. Thanks.
You'll have to pull the seat and track to service it. The retractor is in the outside assembly (but the electrical connection is in the inside part), so you could swap passenger & driver units as a temp fix. Then you would have see if the spring or catch is broken.
Note when checking out the unit that the catch is gravety controlled so you must position the assembly as it would be in the car (verticle with correct orientation) to properly test it.
See if Contemporary Corvette (link on my site) has any good used ones; they have a large Vette bone yead as well as sell new parts. I bought a set of very clean used white belts for my 35th Anniversary at a good price.
Thanks for the info to call Chevrolet Customer Support, there are 3 recall campaigns still outstanding on my vin number and 91058(left side seatbelt) and 91059(passenger side seatbelt) plus 93041(evaporative emissions hose deterioration) are still in effect for the life of the vehicle. I'm going to call my Chevrolet dealer and set up an appointment. Thanks again, that's why I joined this forum because someone has to have gone through these problems before.
