Yes it's a Castrol product in the US that is only available at BMW dealers.
Here's BMW P/N 07510009420. It's available also at service facilities that service BMW's also. There are of course many other options depending on what's readily available in synthetics there. A 10-30 Synthetic Engine oil is frequently used also. It's a lubricant that is debated regularly and I'm sure will be this time also.

The search feature should reveal several debates! Use this less quotes: "S6-40 lubricant"

many thanks WVZR-1, I just wanted clarification on this, would it need an additive? or rather, would it benefit from one? I believe its running something similar ( engine oil) at the moment but it does seem a bit "notchy" if you know what I mean, its better when it gets warm, but then maybe the clutch is getting a bit tired, its only got 56,000 on it.

If you would like to see if a "change" might help buy some Mobil1 10-30 or other FULL SYNTHETIC that's readily available and try it. I believe that frequent services actually are beneficial. Make sure you remove the FILL plug before draining (17mm hex), if you can't remove or if the FILL is difficult to remove the car remains drivable.
