are you talking stock bottom end?

If its aftermarket, with lightweight titanium rods and lightweight forged aluminum pistons - then the sky's the limit.

rev on.

Though I did hear the stock computer will implode if it goes over 7000 rpm.

Surprisingly, Ive heard the optispark will continue to function.

No titanium in my short block. Stock computer has yet to implode.

Normally I try not to go over 6500 rpms in my stock short block LT1. But, it sees a few hundred more rpms on occasion.

My '92 is stock so it only lets me rev it 5850, I think power drops off around 5700 though.... maybe I'll get that redline raised a bit once I get the headers on

I increased my rev limiter to 7200 (100 higher than stock). Peak power is around 6000 rpm, but it doesn't taper hard like a small block at all. It has no trouble increasing speed past 7k rpm.

If I disabled the rev limiter, mine would rev until the timing chains cut loose and would still be pulling hard.

X2. But when I'm doing a track day, it sees 5850 over and over and over...all day long.

These engines can definitely take a beating, you can probably raise the rev limit a bit if you want

The 2-3 WOT shift of my 396 was set at 6600 RPMs.

I made peak HP at about 6250 RPMS......so I didn't see a benifit to going higher.

BTW.....7160 RPMs is wild !

7200 rev limiter. Hit it occasionally, but try to stay under 6900.

Peak power was at about 6300, tapering off above that (obviously).

LT1 383.
