How to prog for a cam?

You have to log the system, determine what is needed and go from there. Drive it names a few of the key tables. Not to start a war, but MAF tables should not be messed with until absolutely necessary. I have only changed the values at idle in those tables. This can be seen in one of the nearby posts.
Good luck! Its a learning process and can only really be learned by just jumping in! Read as much as you can. Thirdgen.org has a very good tuning section along with an intro. to prom burning. Read it about 10 times and things will start making sense. Also be sure to do searches there. TONS of information!
Let me know if you need anything!

And no, I don't take it as a war or any offense about the maf tables; but I've been looking into this subject because there's a few things that don't make sense.
I don't know if you read my post on diy-prom but to reitterate here-there are quite a few different factory GM bins with different maf tables.....and as far as I can find (so far-still researching further) there's only one maf listed for early maf cars-with the exception of 85's of course. So if GM plugged in different maf tables for the same maf to run different engines??????
There's also the issue of maf tables affecting lv8's-I plan on comparing the diff. maf table bins in respect to the tables related to lv8's to try to make some sense of it.
The other thing on my list to do to try to resolve this is giving Gordon Killibrew a call!
GRX-sorry to sidetrack your orinal question here. Please feel free to pick brains here! But a big ditto to ski_down_it on his advice to read and read and research! It really is worth it.
Yes I did read your post, what do you think I do at work all day? When I am not bitching at engineers for not working I am reading! :smash: Just joking.
Hey here is the way I feel about the MAF tables. If you feel comfortable with changing them, and can keep track of a million things at once, then have at them. My brain on the other hand can not keep track of all that.
The sequence of event that get me pretty close on a tune are:
1. Get the BLMs as close as possibe with the FI constant.
2. Adjust timing to rid knock and get performance.
3. get WOT timing and fuel straight.
There are a lot of things in those 3 items, but that is the basics. (now you can say if it were only that easy :p: )
The only spot I messed with MAF is in the idle counts.
I just think that messing with the MAF tables would make it much harder to get other items right. Since nearly everything is based on MAF, you will effect all those items by the factor that you change the MAF tables by.
I like to keep things simple and stupid. I think that is 1/2 the reason GM went to SD. They probably cut their R&D department by 3/4. No more MAF gurus! I really think that people make the MAF system seem more complicated than they need to.
These are all just my opinion.
