Default Hypothetical emission control questions

My hypothetical question is what will happen if I remove the EGR and it's various related plumbing? Is it really all that necessary? Or will that throw a code?

Soon as it warms up the catalytic converters are saying goodbye also.... I know what to expect when they are gone.... A better running car! Wondering if getting rid of the EGR and the AIR pump plumbing will help the car breathe better also...

Right now my car is stock, no check engine light. The cats will come out, that's certain. As for the other emissions garbage, the only components I want to keep are the ones that keep the check engine light in the off position....

I'm a terrible horrible check engine light hater. Can't stand them at all... That being said, I find myself hating emission equipment even more. This is a real problem for me, I almost get insulted personally when that light glows back at me. Normally I know it is emission related in anything I drive.... See where I'm going, yep, like my Beagles after their tails....

Oh... 95 LT1.... Almost forgot, you might not know that!

Well when you delete your cat its gonna show and smell, I dont have an lt but as far as I know if your engine is hot, like hot you should pass(with a cat), for the whole "keep components to keep the check engine light off" id say would be your 02 sensor, but you have a problem with the one after cat. I deleted my air pump and erg, no codes came up.

dont hold me to it but if u want ur ses light off i think theres a fuse for that or something

I have a classic plate so emissions testing is not an issue for me anymore...

And I know about the fuse or just taking the bulb out... I want it to stay out but it still have the ability to come on.... Meaning I don't want to throw a code... I've read you can use a spark plug anti fouler to trick that back O2 sensor... I've hollowed out other pre 1996 catalytic converters with amazing success in terms of how the vehicle runs with no engine light shennagans.

OBDII and I don't get along so well... Thank God my Corvette doesn't have it... I have yet to invest in a code scanner for all the vehicles I work on, I know I should, but I figure it's actually easier and cheaper in the long run if I just never buy another vehicle manufactured before 1996. Simple solution to that problem moving into the future, but for the present I still have a few 'modern' vehicles I have to deal with, and I just haven't got enough of a return on investment yet.

you can remove the one post-cat o2 sensor on your 95 without throwing a code, the EGR system is a different story.

why do people think that the EGR is bad?

all it does is stop the engine from melting down from excess combustion temps...
True, its original intent was to create balance between No and Hc in the exhaust, BUT that same end result is saving the engine under certain conditions. Most of the time, the EGR is doing nothing...so whats the big deal in wanting to take it off of plain-jane stock engines? Does it scare people? or does it look at you funny?

Sorry, I just don;t get it. Why people are so in a hurry to tamper with something that only helps their engine.

If you;ve never seen a "holed" piston then you wouldn;t understand. Thats what excess combustion temps do to aluminum.

You CAN take it off and block off the passage but to do it right and do that safely you have to get the "tune" altered so the ecm is not looking to the EGR to help when certain conditions appear.

EGR is a pollution control device , pure and simple .The lower cyl temp is only a byproduct
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

Plenty of pre emission engines ran fine without it , plenty on here have removed it without their engines burning up , plenty of new builds both stock and Hp run fine without it
Should you take it off , personal decision .
Will it harm your engine if you do ; highly unlikely ( so long as you have EGR removed from the tune )
