oh poopie - update
No oil in the system today after flushing it all out yesterday and putting straight distilled water in. Lets hope it stays that way.
I checked the torque of all the headbolts i could get to (in order of course), and the lower of the second from the front passenger cylinder was just slightly loose (turned maybe a 1/8th to 1/4th of a turn).
I'm going to drain the raidator and fill up the system with antifreeze for whatever comes out right now.

it could be the result of some stuff left in the engine during assembly... or junk left in it when the engine let go...
keep an eye on it, but it may not be that bad...
