OK, I got my 1996 LT1 MINT on the cosmetic end. Now it is time to get to work on the performance. Suspension and exhaust are currently in the works and I have one question. Has anyone installed the Vortek air induction system? Is it all that some have hyped it up to be? I actually have heard mixed things. Some say that this can be a problem on a rainy day with the possibility of water in the intake, but many of these people don't actually have the sytem to be able to give first hand advice. Any input on actual HP gains? Or even alternatives to the Vortek? Maybe K&N?
I modified my stock air filter housing to draw air in from the top of the radiator shroud. It made a huge difference driving on the highway, and you can't even tell from looking at the car unless you look under the nose for the filters inlet.
I've had no problems with water...and have driven through some serious rain. I just try to avoid flooded areas, and when I have to drive through them, I remove the top cover to the air cleaner so it draws air in from the engine compartment instead. I've only felt I needed to do that one time.
I just installed the Vortex about 2 months ago. I love it. More noticeable get up and go (esp. at higher RPMS), a bit throatier sound, decrease in engine temp, too. Plus looks really cool.
Some say it isn't worth the money vs cut/open lid. I disagree b/c with the vortex you are pulling cold outside air into the intake.
Never had problems with rain 'cause I never drive when it's wet! My vette is black, so if I did I'd have to wax it all over again.....
It will make a difference but you will need to do the exhaust first to get a real change. Can't fit more in if you can't get it out. Work on the most restrictive part of the system. Next I am doing the intake, then the throttle body and finally headers. Heads and intake will be ported/polished along the way.

Do you have any pics of your setup...I would be very interested in doing the same!
