Default Wrecked, trying to crank

I bought a wrecked c-4 1995. I bought it for the running gear but would like to hear it run before I take the motor out. I can put a hot battery on it the lights on the inst. panel light up but when I try to engage the starter nothing. Is there a safety switch somewhere that won't let it crank if the airbags have been deployed ?? If so , how do I bypass this so I can crank it ?

Manual or automatic? If it is a manual you have to fully depress the clutch while turning the key.

You can't
Can easily bypass the starter enable relay as noted but all you will get is cranking

Without the correct key or having VATS deleted in the tune
( read http://www.thirdgen.org/vats_passkey_system )
the PCM won't pulse the injectors so with no fuel it won't fire up

Edit
What are you putting the running gear into ; you will need VATS deleted anyway if not going back into a similar car with a VATS module or CCM

IIRC: Info here states an ignition key with the correct VATS chip can be cut at a Chevy dealer. Vehicle VIN & proof of ownership required.

What lights are on the dash when you turn the key to engage the starter? That should give us a good idea.

Might be the neutral start switch try moving the shift lever back/forth while in start mode. If no go jump the connections at the starter solenoid.

Nick, just the regular lights that come on anytime you turn the ing. switch on. But when you turn the switch to crank, nothing.

I tried moving the shifter, but didn't try jumping across the starter.

So hot wire the starter as suggested and with the key on it should start.
If it doesn't then you have VATS /CCM problems
Could also pull the codes

So I'm reading online on other cars if the airbags have deployed the car won't start until they are replaced or a resistor installed to fool the SIR into thinking a new bag is in place.

Vetteoz, I'm thinking that's the problem, the wiring won't let me crank the car since the airbags were deployed. The owner when it was wrecked stated when I bought it that as soon as he wrecked it he couldn't crank it back to move it. He also got some Bar Room buddies and took some wires loose trying to get it to crank.

find the Main SIR module, unplug the connectors.. there should be 2 heavier gauge wires ~12ga.. jumper the 2 together and try it.. that supplies power to the ECM, which I am guessing is not currently getting power
