My 85's headlight motor will not stop running when its in the closed/off position. The motor moves the light housing up and down ok, but once its in the closed position it will not stop running (have to disconnect pwr to the motor).
When I put the car away in November for the winter it worked fine.
The headlight motor was purchased exactly 1 year ago from Corvette America (rebuilt).
It sounds like I had the same thing happen. I was standing in my driveway getting ready to take it on vacation when the motor just took of on it's own. Had to unplug it when it was down. I ordered a repair gear off of ebay. I found a tutorial, I think it was on here, and takes maybe an hour. Take the motor out, open it up, it has a handful of screws that seal it. Replace the gear and reassemble the motor. You will need a good moly grease for inside the motor and RTV to reseal it. It is wise to do both sides at the same time.
I decided to change the bushings AND the gears while I was there. Luckily so. Usually when I shortcut something, it never pays off. Later on, I noticed a hairline crack on one of the gears.
Looks like my motor was part of a bad batch. Out of 40 sold 12 were sent back (now 13) to corvette america in the past year.
Replacement arriving tomorrow--we"ll see..
