I lowered the rear yesterday and the suspension was as expected higher than when I started. Drove it a few miles today hard over some bumps just to make sure it was sitting correctly. When I got back, the driver's side was over an inch lower than the passenger. I know I have a fat you know what but an inch and a quarter? Is this right? The stock bolts were even and it rode evenly. The bushings are stock and intact and seated correctly. Has anyone else had this much variance? I corrected by cranking up the driver's side to compensate. I still need to have it aligned.
Thanks Scorp. I'm gonna get it perfect (still off 1/4") and then lower the front sometime soon. I don't like the fact that the rear is lower than the front but I gotta build up some courage before removing the front spring. In the mean time though I gotta get this zf fixed. Still not sure what's wrong.
I want it lower but not too low. I also don't like the "uneven" look. I want it to look almost stock. I lowered mine because the verts were raised 13/16" because of the loss of clearance due to the x brace. I was tired of the 4x4 look. That's for the Jeep.
Re: Lowering question. Its uneven? (92TripleBlack)
Just finished lowering mine today. It seems even to the eye, but did not measure it. I lowered it only enough to take the front to rear rake out of the stance (about 1/2 in)
I did it by using the stock bolts & castle nuts. Removed the bolt & nut, then placed the nut on the bolt so all the threads were just engaged at the very bottom of the bolt. I then drilled a new hole for the cotter pin using the slot in the castle nut as a guide (used a drill press). Repeated the procedure for the other side. Since both nuts are located in the same place (at the very bottom of the bolt), and the difference in the new hole & old hole is the same, it would seem as if I would not upset the existing left to right level. The whole thing cost me the price of 2 cotter pins.
As I said, the car seems even. In your situation, I would think that a bit of trial & error over a few weeks will get the car even (lft to rt).
By the way, my seat of the pants tells me that the car seems to corner a bit better. Won't know for sure until I get to my next autocross. I'll be sure to use the same alignment specs & tires (will install tires next week) to insure changing only one thing at a time.
I would be really careful with that or even get new bolts. One of the forum members had someone do the same procedure and the bolt snapped at the old hole. If they had been going at speed, it could have been a big problem. :yesnod:

I want to lower my vert, but stock it bearly clears some speedbumps. How much did you lower and do you regret it? Currently the top of the wheel wells measure 27 3/4 inch.
Worked out to about an inch. Yes, I was also scraping speedbumps so now I will have to drive over them more slowly. I have to see on the handling aspect as I just did it but it seems like it did help. I don't know the distance from the ground to the tire well. From the top of the tire to the outer lip of my fenders its about 3". I used a wrench handle and held it up to the gap on both sides. It was originally about an inch lower on the driver's side. I am going to check it again tonight. Figure it will have resettled by then.
Re: Lowering question. Its uneven? (92TripleBlack)
Aloha TripleBlack! Hope that this helps. Here we go... I along with a close buddy of mine, had lowered my 91 vette, and for the longest time, the passenger side was about 2 inches off from the drivers side.. I couldnt deal with that, so, I evened them out and soon noticed when looking from the under side, the passenger side of the leaf spring bowed much more than the drivers side, so I must have jacked up my car at least 50 to 70 times!! ( no kidding around!! ) through the course of about a week an a half!! making sure that everything was done correctly. One day when I was going to make another attempt at it ( Im very partcular about things being even, twice as much as a normal human!! ) the passenger side was all of a sudden lower that the drivers side... strange I thought, so I evened it out ounce more and now it's remained even ever since! So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it will probably even out in time, it won't be exact though, the nuts on the bolts are not even, but they are much closer then they were when we started the project. one final note, I like my car lowerd until I am at the same eye ball level with the cockroaches, so I put longer bolts in place of stock bolts, and yes, they are grade 8 aircraft bolts, nuts and washers!! If you want to see pictures, e-mail me at zolarcomics@hotmail.com and I'll send you pictures. And one more thing, you have to make sure that the ground that your car is on at the time that your taking measurements is absolutly level and that your tires are as straight as possible... it does make a big difference!!! HOPE THIS HELPS. ALOHA! :D :flag
Re: Lowering question. Its uneven? (Double Clutch)
Thanks. Aloha. I'm letting it sit while it waits for its clutch. I figure this will let it settle. Is it ok to even it out with the bolts or should I be searching for something else? Looks like I still have the inch difference I had.
I have seen MANY A C4...and not ONE of them is level from left to right. Usually it's relaxed on the drivers side.
Every C4 I've seen has a "left side lean." This question actually went around the GS Registry mailing list a few months back. Everyone reported the same condition. The driver side sits about 1" - 1 1/4" lower than that passenger side. You can check by seeing how many fingers you can fit under each wheelwell.
