96 won't fire

96 won't fire
My 1996 will crank when I turn the ignition but won't fire (start). It seems the electrical goes in and out when I tried to start such as the instrument panel comes on and off and the volts go up and down. I tried to jump start. I checked external wiring connections. It has fuel. Never had any problems till this. Any ideas?

May not help, but check the battery posts for a solid connection.
I've seen the dash lights fade away when the cables were not tight.
