When I push the unlock button, only the passenger side edoor unlocks. I tried holding it down pushing it twice and pushing both buttons. No luck. Isn't it also supposed to lock the doors when you push it again.
The other button opens the convertible lid. I changed the battery and cleaned the little ball in the key pad also and it didn't do anything. How can this be fixed? :(
For some reason my door locks wont' respond at all now. :(
I changed the battery last night on the key pad and I can't get any response at all with either one.
Is there some kind of switch that disables the power door locks? I may have turned something off accidentaly.
I had the same problem on my 86. One of the door switches was bad. In my case the passenger's side. If one is bad then the power lock system doesn't work.
Good Luck
Re: Power door locks don't work right (speedwise86)
Woohoo....My first problem with my vette :D (just like saying VETTE!)
I haven't played around with it much but if I lock the doors. Will the alarm ring if I unlock it with the key? I know if you just reach in and unlock it, it will ring. Don't want to look silly trying to turn off my alarm. :)

No need to worry about the alarm.. Just use your key in the door, and the alarm should shut off. If they are not working at all, did you look at the power lock fuse yet?? I blew mine once, while trying to change a switch..
I can't believe how easy it is to get help in this board. Once I tried to get help on the mustang forums, it took about 10 put downs about my car and then got 1 decent answer. I have no regrets moving to the vette and this forum. :)
If the lock doesn't move at all or make any sound, you may have a loose wire. Otherwise, you probably need an new actuator. Try 18carfan at Superior Chevrolet in Overland, KS. He can get you GM parts cheap. Tell him you are a forum member. If you need help taking it apart, let us know. Regardless, use the button to lock the door when you exit and then slide the lock. This will set the alarm. If the alarm goes off anytime, use the key in the doorlock to turn it off.

Glad we could be of assistance.. You will find, most any problem will be analyzed and solved quckly on this board.. Dont get discouraged if someone tells you to "search the archives".. sometimes the question was just recently answered, and a search of the forum archives will find you your answer.. Welcome to the forum, and to Vettes.. You'll wonder why you ever had an ugly blue oval on your car.. ;)

P.S. Like 92TripleBlack said- look up Jeff for parts.. he is GREAT.. gives forum members a great deal on any GM part you need.
And no more Rustang either! I had three before I go the fiberglass. Best move I ever made. BTW, since you are new and just got the car, be careful washing the motor. Below the water pump is the optispark module. It is very fragile when it comes to water and washing can kill it. They go for around $500 or more for a repair. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
