Default Flywheel question.

Im doing my clutch swap this week. If the flywheel looks bad, can I machine it? And if it looks good, what should I do then, scuff it? And how do I "scuff" it?

you could probably turn it on a flywheel stone, however the dual mass flywheels wear out. they are a sprung hub flywheel. on a 11yr old car it's hard to say how much life is left. i have a 1990 & just did a clutch job, i used a 95 camaro LT1 flywheel, machined off 90 thousands, bought the camaro disc for the same year as the flywheel. then bought the 89-92 corvette pressure plate and bushing. cost is very similar to trying to reuse your stock setup plus you are moving to a single mass flywheel that weighs half as much and with the sprung camaro disc you loose no drivability. unless you really don't care about performance i'd really suggest this route.

More times than not the flywheel is toast and the machine shop won't be able to fix it. I guess it depends on how long you drove around on your bad clutch! I just redid mine about 4 months ago. I ended up going with the single mass aluminum flywheel set-up and I'm very pleased. :yesnod:
