The Bendix on my starter stuck. I didn't realize it was stuck until I got where I was going and shut the engine off...it would keep turning over with the starter. Turn to on, engine would start...turn it off, engine would continue to turn over by the starter. Left it on to take to a garage, ran into the office to tell someone I would be gone for a while...ran back out, engine had quit, smoke coming from under hood. Lifted hood, starter (or that area) smoking. Of course the first thing I did was turn the key off? That seemed to stop the starter smoking (gradually)...then the battery started smoking...so I disconnected the positive lead to the battery. Finally everything quit smoking!
What do you guys think I'm gonna run into down there? I've already got a new starter and new battery. What else should I expect. And unfortunately, I'm gonna have to pay someone to do it (the dealer) because I have no way of lifting the car high enough to do the job plus I live about 10 miles out of town and the tow charge would pay for a couple hours of labor....and the car is already at the dealer waiting for my decision. Smoked wires? Damaged electronic components?
