My question is this; Recently my '86 ragtop developed a problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Very lagging and then bang into gear. Afterwards the smell of fluid permeated the air. Also fluid came from somewhere and spilled on to passenger side exhaust pipe.
Saw that it might be a simple fix just in replacing a piston and o-ring in the valve body. A TCC apply valve. Theory being that a valve was leaking and not letting enough pressure to make the shift from 2 to 3.
SO if I change filter, fluid and replace the TCC valve, do you think it will help?
Car has 121k miles now and is still very strong. I bought it at 98k miles. Really enjoy the car very much! Hopefully this fix will buy me some time to save for a new transmission.
Thanks ahead of time !
probably you have a leak at the front seal, where converter hub meets the pump. The smell comes from exaust splashing or it smell like burned coffe.Drop the pan,if something goes wrong you'll find debris into the pan,and oil smells and is brown.Mine did the same before ...good luck
easy to check if the front seal is leaking...take off the flywheel/flexplate cover ( 1/4" drive and a long extention). Look for a real clean spot by the pump cover/seal. found mine that way.
