Question on the Brake Booster
Brake pedal hard as a rock. Knew what it was and took a look at the Booster. Just replaced the original 4 months ago with a re-built GM part from a place called Rock Bottom Auto Parts. Sure enough there was a crack in the outer casing running from the check valve to the seam where the two halves of the booster are put together.
Called Rock Bottom. Felt bad for me but, sorry, only have a 2 week return policy. (Make a mental note not to do business with them).
Now, I have a metal replacement booster, also rebuilt but should be good, BUT, a friend of mine gave me an idea. How about epoxy the crack? Instead, I have a hot glue gun and went to work. Will never win any prizes for looks (although i sanded it down and painted it) BUT, it works. Holds vacuum. Took a ride, hit the brakes a couple dozen times and it's good to go.
Now my question:
Does the brake booster build up any pressure? Is there any pressure on that crack either outgoing or vacuum pressure that would sooner or later make it crack again at that spot since it's the weakest link?
Another NEW GM booster $373.00, re-built GM $125 but a real PITA to replace.
Would like some advice. One more thing. I'm about to go on an almost 3000 mile Hot Rod Power Tour. Should I trust my home made fix? I could always bring along my glue gun.

Thanks for listening

I would think if your repair holds for a short trip then it should hold for a long one too.
Personally it would cause me a lot of stress to do the Power Tour with that thought in the back of my mind though.
