i need to know the correct date code on a 1984 good year eagle p255/50vr16. the numbers i have on these tires are dot mkc1 hjo 217 as far as i can tell in 87 they made this size p245/60vr16. i'm confused . i have 4 of the original tires and wheels off a 84 corvette the part numbers on the wheels are corect the tires look like they haven't been changed out ever. now there is an other number just right of the 217 (010r) the r and L must mean right side and left side. i haven't recived my book from the ncrs as of yet. thanks jonneyone
Date code on tires is on the "inside" sidewall and NOT the outside on early tires. Prior to the year 1999/2000 tire date codes would be three digit codes, after the year 2000 they became four digit. It would be "branded" into the tire.
****Appears these could be date coded on the outer sidewall
The first 2 digits would be the week and the last the year, 124 could be interpreted as either 12th week 84 or 12th week 94 BUT I believe a 94 date code would be followed by a triangle. If your code is 217 I'd say it's a tire constructed the 21st week 1987. If followed by a triangle 1997
Snapshots?
The date codes have nothing to do with the tire size ONLY the production of the tire "regardless" of the size. A P255/50VR16 built today would display maybe 1013
i looked on the inside of the tires i found this tpc spec 1044 does this mean anything. i know in 87 they put on a p245-60vr16 according to the corvette specs for that year. 1987. all four tires had that number on them on the inside of the tire, thanks jonneyone
