Default Rear Differentail Fluid Change Questions

I actually did this a few years ago to my 96 and now want to to do it for my 95 ZR1. Funny thing is I forgot how I did it. What side is the plug on? What size is hex wrench does it take? What is best way to access plug? If I recall I had the car up on ramps and jacked the rear of the car up and placed on stands. If I recall if was a real pain to get to.

I have a vacuum pump and all the tools at least.

What is the correct limit slip fluid to use? Brand, weight, additives, etc?

That debate happens pretty frequently and is a "personal choice"!

FSM specifies I believe 80W-90 GL5 and GM additive. Lubricants have improved through the years and you can consider the FSM as I guess a "minimum" spec. The debate can be likely a couple pages. I've always used the GM fluids. Habit!

The original I still have is 1052271 and 1052358 for additive. Both I believe have recently changed part numbers.

KJL - you asked fill plug size - 3/8 hex I believe if original. You asked how? It will all come back to you!

Does the GM type fluid come with the slip additive already in it or do you purchase two products and mix them? Thanks

Use the part #'s in my post -- additive is a seperate purchase (*you need just 1)

*people mention using 2 if they have problems - I don't know that actually helps.

Get yourself a long 3/8 wrench & a 3/8 allen wrench, cut the allen wrench to make a bit about 1.5" long. The have the bit welded to the 3/8 wrench.

Thanks for the feed back, I believe I have an allen 3/8" socket already, I guess I will need to remove the passenger side rear wheel and jack the car up access.

Or, or, you could just buy one. They come in long and short hex lenghts. About $10.00 for a cheapo and about $25.00 for Snap-On.
