I ordered and recieved a set of NGK ITR5F13 spark plugs for my 1996 LT-1. They are nicely constructed but none of them came with any compression rings. It's been awhile since I replaced plugs. Is this how they are now. Do you order them seperately or do you not use them at all?
Yes. Technology moves on and if you don't do something often (like change plugs every 50,000 miles) then sometimes things change and you don't know it. The plug does have a tapered edge at the seat and it is possible that it doesn't require a compression ring. I just don't want to mess up when it comes to aluminium heads.
Have not seen compression rings for many years....all now use tapered threads. Gap those plugs and put them in. I put these in both my '95 and '96...nice throttle response....well worth the cost and trouble to install.
Be VERY careful gapping iridium plugs. You can hurt them if you aren't careful. Use a pair of pliers to pull the gap wider, press down on the strap to close the gap. Do not put any pressure on the tip of the electrode. It will hate you for it.
