Thanks again for all the feedback. I am no expert on this stuff and appreciate the info.
Jim - You mentioned the "O" word (optispark)!! I hope I don't have any opti weaknesses developing! I've got about 37k on the car, so hopefully it has some more life left in it, but I know they can fail at a fairly young age. :( I was wondering about the plug wires. I talked to the guy at the shop and he said weak wires could possibly cause what we saw. Wires and opti are original (as far as I know). What's the recommended age/miles for changing plug wires??
Mez - Thanks for the info on the gaskets/porting. I hope to do some head/intake porting in the future.
Chris - I think my fuel pressure is at about 44# now. The best approach would be to adjust pressure on the dyno to maximize output, but based on what you can see, do you have a pressure recommendation? Should I just drop it a couple pounds and see what happens?
You also mentioned using a "log of the dyno run" to help diagnose the spiking. What do you mean by this?
on my dyno,i always let the customer drive...its funny you mention gettin out of the throttle early, every single person,on the first run,has mashed the gas and then gotten out of it and then mashed it again..too funny! be careful about leanin the engine on the dyno..i usually add a pound of fuel pressure, just to be safe. :)
Nice #'s I too agree that it is a little on the rich side, you may see a few extra ponies by trimming the pressure a pound or two, if you could adjust it on the dyno that would certainly be the best way to see.
You should try to make each run with about the same coolant temp. Small variations in engine temp can make a big difference in power. So can the weather.

4th gear, put it to the boards when I hit about 45mph. Stayed in it until I hit less than redline :conehead
Since the hood was closed during both runs and there were no fans moving any air, my intake air temp must have really risen which probably explains the power drop between the 1st and 2nd runs.
my favorite part about MSD is the rev plug in. on a unlimited L98 or 5800rpm limited LT1 when the engine is built it's nice to be able to use the 6000-6500 rpm pills. also it keeps me worrying from if the ignition us up to par in the higher RPMs
