Default Throttle body plate

I decided to get a custom plate/cover for the throttle body on my 1994 LT1. I removed the old cover and the gasket and underneath in the throttle body looked like it was soaked in oil? Is this ok? Should I clean this out before putting on the new plate? Does this indicate a problem? The car ran fine. Also, I got a new gasket with the new plate. It is hollow inside while the other one was solid. Is this ok? Thanks for any advice.

As part of maintenance, clean your throttle body. Your best bet is to remove it and throughly clean it. You will need a new TB gasket. Also clean your IAC valve while the TB is off. The new gasket for your plate will work fine.

IMO just clean the throttle body you'll be fine.

Coolant passages are in the bottom... Tube from valve cover to Throttle body in the top.... NO DRAMA...

My 95 gasket looked just like yours when I took mine apart. Oil logged and saggy. I sealed it up with "make a gasket" sealant and I know I did a good job, but it never ran perfect. Once I replaced the gasket with the solid, factory type, it ran perfect.
Your 94 calls for the solid gasket when I look it up on rockauto and see the pics. I think you should get what the factory calls for. $10 gets you the top and bottom gaskets and another 5 dollars gets you the TB to intake gasket, if you take it off and clean it.

Well, I finished my cleaning of the throttle body. It was filthy. With 133k on the odometer, I think it was never cleaned. While I was at it, I replaced the IAC. Did the reset procedure for the IAC and the car seems to be idling ok so far, I only ran it for like 30 seconds. I did use the gasket pictured above, I hope it'll be fine.

The Old IAC.

The New Plate in Place, I broke the rubber collar that holds on the breather tube to the throttle body. I will have to go buy some rubber tubing to replace it.

The air supply for the PCV system goes through the top of the throttle body. That's why the gasket is there.

That area should only have clean air from the air filter going through there. If it is full of oil you might have a problem with your PCV valve or lots of blow-by. Maybe you have a K&N type air filter that's over-oiled?

I just experienced the same thing with my 95 LT1 as CNJ, soaked with oil. I'm going to clean it out and use the gasket that came with the new plate, hopefully won't have any problems. If I do have problems, I'll order a replacement OEM type gasket.

So this provides air pressure, not vacuum, thru the crankcase vent tube to the left side valve cover? So if there's standing oil as shown in the pics it's likely the PCV system is plugged. As I look into the intake manifold with the throttle blades wide open I see lots of caked on oil. Is this normal?

If the PCV system is doing what it is supposed to be doing there should be a vacuum on the passenger side valve cover hole.

Why clean just the IAC? The passages also get gunked up. Might as well make a clean run of it and take it off, clean everything and replace gaskets. Sure, it might be a bit harder to take the IAC housing off but after a couple times you will learn to use anti-sieze and it will make life easier especially if you delete the coolant hose.
