Default need help w/adjusting 4+3 shifting rods

I've been trying to hookup the shift levers to the tranny but once averything is hooked up, I can't shift out of reverse, but if I unbolt the reverse lever the other gears work normally. I tryed adjusting the adjusting nut on the lever but it still doesn't work or I'm not doing something right. Anyone has any sugestions???

How did you hook up the rods on the tranny? The front two should be (thinks hard) above the tranny, to the lever, to the tranny. The reverse rod connects from below the tranny, to the lever, to the tranny.

That's how I got 'em. When I hooked the levers up, I put the tranny in neutral because it was impossible to install the reverse lever while the tranny was in reverse.

I had this exact problem when I put my transmission back in. Do you also find that neutral isn't neutral and if you let out the clutch reverse gear is actually engaged?

What I found is that there is only one way to reattach the main gear shift rods but you can attach the reverse rod in either position. You probably just have the wrong one. Leave the main shift rods alone and unhook the reverse rod. Shift the reverse lever to the opposite position and reattach the rod. It's that simple. Give it a try!

EDIT: BTW, I wouldn't drive around with the reverse rod disconnected. The shifter doesn't really function properly without it. You probably find out, if you haven't already, that it's harder to shift into 1st gear without that reverse rod hooked up.

...Poor lad...His mind is scrambled... :nonod:

The two front links stick up; the reverse link sticks down...All 3 links "stick out"... :yesnod:

had a similar problrm with mine and it turns out that the linkage was too tight . Once i loosened it to a point that seemed too loose, it shifted again.

I recently had my shifter out w/ the rods out and completely disassembled.
When I put it together, I made a small alignment piece to set the neutral gates back in sync.
If you look at the side of the shifter you'll see a small rectangular slot.
Line up the lower arms so the slot lines up w/ the three arms.
slide the piece in and leave it there as you connect and adjust the rods.
When it's all assembled remove the piece and it's all adjusted.
