The engine and tranny both respond to throttle, it is only when I let off the gas that the tranny disengages. When you say direct clutch plates do you refer to the clutches in the OD or the main clutch assembly in the 4 speed half of the transmission? I have a new clutch so I know the 4 speed half is working fine. The OD is disconnected until I get this prob. figured out so there shouldn't be any damage done to it.
Yep, the clutches I'm referring to are the 6 plates in the o/d. How about posting some details such as what speeds you are having the problems at, what gear you have the t-10 in, whether there are any noises coming from the tranny at any time, etc. Overdrive problems can be very hard to describe accurately so more information is better than less.
Well, see, it's hard to describe because the overdrive is never engaged. That is my major problem. As for speeds and gear, It happens any time, and any gear, whenever I let off the gas. Wait, I don't believe it engages in 1st which sounds normal. I don't have any strange noises except for just the regular whines and all that just come with a manual. I went L&M Transmissions. They built my TH350 on my 79 Trans Am and they did excellent work. The man I talked to said he could only give me a rough estimate, but he said $250 plus parts. This was much better than I expected. I wouldn't think that the parts would exceed, 3 or 400 so I set up an appointment July 1st(no 4th of July cruising :( ). I hope you guys aren't too upset for me not handling the problem on my own, but that takes quite a bit more knowledge and know how than I have. Thanks for everything. I'll make sure and get info from the mechanic to let you guys know what was wrong for real, but that should be a while.
I just had mine rebuilt by AMCO for $1,600 but while it was out I had the drive line rebalanced and the clutch replaced.......I fried the clutches on mine and cooked more parts then the standard o.d. kit has in it, so the rebuild price went up......good luck but plan for a higher price then you are told..........
Yeah, well, I had my clutch rebuilt for 1200 about 2 months ago. I went to someone different and I wasn't pleased at all. I should've had it all done at once. Yes, I know about the higher price thing. It's ALWAYS higher, and it ALWAYS takes longer. But I don't guess I can complain since I'm not doing it myself.
Yeah, I understand, but this place does about the best work around. It's a good operation, and the guy has worked on several 4+3's. I was suprised with that. I still have until July 1st to decide. I still really hate giving my car up to someone else, but I guess it'll be worth it.
