I put a thread in a few months ago and cannot find it to ask this question. I removed the A/C and air pump from my 1986 convertible. The fan stays on all the time. In the last thread someone said to jumper the green and black wires of the plugs back by the heater box that were unpluged when i removed the a/c tubing.
There are 3 plugs. One has green and black wires. One has green/w white stripe and black wire. One has 2 black wires. I jumpered both the plugs that have the green and black wires and the fan kept running.
hi-press switch was one down low on a lower line going between condensor and evaporator. Next to it is the cycling switch I believe....pressure switch is the larger of the 2.
When a/c runs it builds pressure....it trips this switch to make the cooling fan run to pull heat off the condensor. Jumping it makes the system think the a/c is off so the fan is not required.
Look at the plug..it may be jumped now. I think thats a open switch that closes under pressure to complete the circuit. I think ... ) once in a while (
Leave the plug that is on the condensor outlet un-jumpered.
This line is at the top of the ac box on the firewall.
If fan still runs un jumper 1 of the plugs on the hi pressure line. If fan still runs switch which plug you have jumped on the Hi pressure line.
No matter what, the one at the top on ac box should remain open.
It's the Low pressure switch and it would only close when ac system had proper pressure so Compressor wouldn't engage with low charge.
Ok. I left the top plug un jumpered and unplugged. I jumpered the other 2 plugs. One is a large plug and one is small. Fan still run. I unjumpered the large plug and fan still run. I jumpered the large plug and unjumpered the small plug and fan still run.
has the fan relay been looked at? its very simple to ground the relay grnd wire to make the fan run constantly. Going to the a/c switches was assuming the relay was ok.

Yes. Everything was ok prior to taking the A/C off. Fan would come on at about 215 degrees. Took a/c off and now runs all the time. The only plugs I disconnected were the a/c compressor, and the 3 we are talking about.
I just want to tell everyone thanks for the help.
I finished some work on th motor and thought I would try grounding the dark green wire one more time. Fan did not come on until 230 degrees.
