Anybody tell me what is the source of the large hose on the bottom of the Cruise Control Servo? I can't find where it goes. Disappears under the power brake hydrovac. Help appreciated.
It goes to the switch on your brake pedal. When you press the brake it vents this line to disengage the cruise control. I just replaced mine ( and the other one that goes to a vacuum tee in the harness.) The larger one going to your brake pedal is 7/32 and the other is 5/32. ( at least that's on my 94)
Good info. Didn't know why that hose appeared to go into the cabin. Adding this to my list of things to check for the intermittent work/no work cruise problem. How much of a pain was it to change out?
Wasn't too bad, getting to the switch on the pedal is easy enough, I dropped the hush pad and had easy access. I removed the switch all together ( it just pulls out of the bracket) to remove the hose. The toughest part was getting the new hose through that big grommet on the firewall. Depending on the size of your hands you might be able to reach down under the brake booster and help it through. Since its easy enough to remove he battery that's what I did to give me more room to work. I used a piece of threaded rod ( any rigid tube of the right size would work) to thread the new hose onto, and taped the leading edge to avoid it catching. Then I used some Vaseline to lube it. I was able to push the rod ( with the hose attached) somewhat easily through the firewall grommet from the cabin and grab it on the other side. I think the trick is to make the rod long enough to get though so you can still push it from the inside and get the new hose to the other side, but no too long where it becomes a hassle in the engine compartment.
When I replaced mine, I cheated a little. The new hose from NAPA was thicker and I knew I would have a hard time getting it through the firewall. So I cut the vacuum line on the battery side near to the firewall (it was still in good shape there). Then I removed it from the switch on the brake pedal. I pulled it through toward the battery side and when it go closer to the interior firewall I put a vacuum connector on it and added the necessary length to reattach it to the switch on the pedal. On the battery side I also added a vacuum connector and added the necessary length of vacuum tubing to get to the cruise control.
Everything works fine and I saved some time and trouble.
I used the hard vacuum lines to go through the firewall, then rubber nipples to the switch and cruise. Easier to get through the firewall and a lot sturdier than vacuum hose. I also used the hard lines to vent my Opti...
