Have almost 150k on mine and am running castrol gtx 10w40. Oil pressure gets into the low 20's when idling when 95 degrees here. I have the parts on order to get the stock temp down a bit, but would like to use a thicker oil to get the pressure a bit higher. Any suggestions?
Mike, I'm use the Castrol "high mileage" 20W50 oil in my 158,700 mile '88.
After everything is warmed up, I run about 40lbs at idle and 60-70lbs. pressure cruisin' at around 75mph @ 1700 rpm. I burn maybe 1/2qt of oil between 3000 miles changes. I can live with that.
Fix
cool dudes:) thanks for the advice. I have always used castrol products since my 77 trans am days (400ci headers torker high rise-650 dfdp holley, fairbanks full race tranny-ported and polished heads )so will probably stick with that. Pressure comes up to low 40's at 1500 rpm .
