Right, here's the situation, I have a '94 coupe, currently running eliminators, Im going to go for Corsa catbacks, the question is would long tubes be a good addition? and if so what type? Ive heard somewhere that long tubes dont work on a '94 LT1 ! please advise before I spend money better put elsewhere!! Thank you..

A good set of LT headers is a much better investment for your money than a cat back. The exhaust system on the 94 vett is very good in stock form. You will notice a seat of the pants increase in power, nice sound with LT's. They are not easy to install, but with patience you will love the finished product. I have Exotic Muscle LT's on my 93.

If your asking me... I needed Longtubes to support my engine mods..\

AI ported intake, AI ported heads, 23x 23x .615 lift cam on a 110 lsa,
0.05 deck height on my pistons, 6 inch rods, .027 cometic gaskets and numerous supporting mods. Engine needs air in and air out IOT spin 7K

I'm still running the factory cat back IE LT headers after market cats and then factory pipes. I have a 3 inch B and B stainless exhaust in the attic but so far it hasn't been needed.

(We actually had a pressure gauges in the extra bung (wideband bung) one time on the dyno IOT see if we needed to install the b and b

But the factory pipes are not a bottle neck for me.....YET!

Stainless Works long tubes on my '92.
In fact, it's a complete SW system (block to tips).

because Im currently running muffler eliminators I reckon a move to Corsa's wouldnt be an issue as apposed to replacing the stock exhaust, which I dont have, but I believe in "if your gonna do it then do it right" I reckon corsa's with a good set of LT headers would be the way to go, I dont know how much HP eliminators lose but I would think the setup Im after would be a definite improvement..

Seat of the pants yes, but will be throwing it on the dyno next month to see what increase over baseline. Expect some improvement,we'll see.

Be careful to pick a setup that someone's documented the effects of; I know that by opening up the exhaust too much you can bend your torque curve into an unfavorably spiked distribution. You'll also perhaps want to send off your computer to a tuner for slightly different fuel curves to make use of the change in restriction.

Also, be prepared for a huge amount of steps. I bought hooker 2151 headers and couldn't believe all the little things I had to do before they were finally installed and ready. Things like plugging up O2 sensor holes, eliminating AIR pipes, re-routing brake lines and spark plug wires, flipping the engine mount bolts, bending random stuff, grinding random stuff.. some of these steps would be prevented by going with a product designed for a C4 as opposed to a Camaro, but a lot of them are just inherent to making such a drastic layout change under the hood.

By far, the biggest and most frustrating task was getting the old exhaust apart. Every bolt was seized with rust, and both ends of both catalytic converters have some of their bolts extremely inaccessible. I even had to unbolt the engine mounts and have the engine on a rope to get it at the right angle for some of them.

I actually don't like the increase in volume, even as mean as the headers make the engine sound; the drone during acceleration is loud enough in the car that it slightly discourages me from getting on the gas, which isn't good. I need to buy some more sound deadening stuff for the interior.

Also, I got a ceramic coating from jet-hot on my tubes. The idea was to decrease underhood temps so it wasn't such an oven every time I ventured under the hood. It worked, but road salt easily corroded and flaked off the coating in about a year. Jet-hot stood behind it and re-coated it (everyone gets one free re-coat), but be aware that on top of the high expense of those coatings, they do react to the elements.

I have the Exotic Muscle early built long tube headers on my 92 LT-1 and they added noticeable power. I also deleted the mufflers as the 92's added too much back-pressure. The long tubes fit easily...the passenger side comes in from the bottom of the car (easiest way I found to install) and the driver's side from the top. You will have to have your exhaust modified for the new length obviously.
