Default 93 Replacing wiper switch

I need to replace the wiper switch, the one in the steering column. Has anyone done this and do you have any tips. The only thing I can find in the FSM is about the turn signal lever.

As far as the switch itself, rock auto has an ac/delco switch for around $149, and corvette central has one for $69. I've been hearing about all the parts coming from china and the corvette central switch is probably imported, but I'd hate to spend the money on an ac/delco part only to find out is was also made overseas.

My wipers haven't ever been dependable. I replaced the cover on the wiper motor last year, but they started working/not working lately and to get them to come on I sometimes have to jiggle the turn signal lever to get them to work. It rained on the way to work this morning and they wouldn't come on, checked fuse and its fine.

let me go check for sure on this but when i was looking into this i think i found that you can use the one o'reilly has on the shelf.

alright, I tried to look at the under dash wiring for that and can't get to it(car in garage stuff piled around it). but if I remember correctly, the c4 switch can be disconnected at the base of the lever and under the dash where the common version connects. therfore to use the common you would need to hook it up under the dash.

my bad i read that wrong, I think the switch from say a 1990 c10 would work if you add the lever for that switch or do not remove the lever wiring.

Have you gone through the diagnostics as listed in the FSM just to rule out anything else? I've never replaced my switch, but from what I've read, it can be a major PITA, especially since you have to remove the steering wheel/air bag to get to it.

When i needed to fix the wipers on my 93 i looked into what i said above but it turned out that the power or ground trace burnt on the wiper circuit board. and to fix it I repaired the trace, still need to find a new circuit board.

The wiper cover/circuit board was the first thing I replaced and it worked fine for about a year. It would sometimes hesitate, not turn off, and stop at top of the sweep. Whenever it acted up I could jiggle the turn lever and it would start working which makes me thing it it the switch in the column.

Two days ago it wouldn't work when I got caught in some rain on the way to work. Today when I was driving to work the wipers came up and went back down as if the memory from turning it on the other day was still in the switch. On the way home tonight the wipers worked (of course they did, it was 72 degrees and sunny, first day this year with the top off!).

I'm thinking that I might have to go ahead and replace the switch and while I have everything apart I'll try to fix the floppy tilt steering that the car has had the whole time I've owned it. Gotta look into those posts on how to fix that. I'll have another car I can use for the next 2 weeks while I tackle the steering column.

I replaced my wiper switch and it fixed my intermittent wiper problem. Mine had a chaffed wire that was rubbing on the steering column. Its time consuming and you have to fish the wires through the steering column. Take pictures as you go to remind yourself how the steering column goes back together.

BTW I have a used GM wiper switch that is in known good condition.
