AIR pump eliminator question
#3
A good quality kit will allow the original size belt to be utilized since it will come with a pulley to compensate for the AIR pump pulley. And again, if a quality kit is used, there will be a quality pulley (not the plastic kind) to replace the AIR pump hence no new belt.

I bought a TPiS eliminator kit for my '87. The pulley that came with the kit was a smaller diameter than the OEM AIR pulley. At the same time, I installed an A/C eliminator kit and the pulley that came with that kit was the same size as the pulley on the factory condenser.

I bought my AIR eliminator kit back in Dec 2011 directly from TPiS going thru their fleabay page. At the time, I paid $157.95 for it delivered to my house.
Frankly, I would not buy a kit from either Mid-America or Ecklers. You will pay a higher price, inflated shipping/handling charges (TPiS charged $8.00 for shipping USPS Priority) and you may not get a quality pulley.
I used a Dayco 5060865 belt for my install. The install instruction sheet stated that 85-87 cars "may" require a belt that is about 2" shorter.
Look here You might search this section using something like " AIR eliminator kit " or similar search terms to get more information.

check out breathless performance........I have their system, required no new belt (I have an 85), has a nice chrome finish, steel pulley......now I paid for than I should have, but I upgraded the finish and the pulley; fits like a glove with the stock size belt....you would never know something other than that should be there unless you are familiar with the AIR pump systems on these cars....
