Default long tubes or shorties

what is best for a '93 C4 A4 that will keep the stock cam?

I seem to remember the long tubes being too much for an LT1 with a stock cam because a lot of torque is lost. Opinions????

Thanks.

Get the long tubes if you want power. Get the shorties if you want to be emissions legal. Long tubes with an A4 does not leave room for cats. Some people have managed to put bullet cats in a staggered fashion with the A4 but I haven't seen pictures. I have a stock cam in my car and headers gave me .2 and 3ph in the 8th. The estimate is 30-45 RWHP. This is not dyno proven. My educated guess is 25 rwhp. You don't lose bottom end and the car sounds a lot better.

I run long tubes with a stock cam right now, I am a M6 though.
I showed a nice gain with them. 52mm TB and TPIS LT's & Electric WP gave me 4/10ths over previous best.

An L98 has shorties stock and long tubes add about 15hp with no/little low torque loss.

You could run duals with Random Tech cats, even with pipes up to 3" dia.

thanks.

Does ground clearance become an issue?

I've seen where some people use L98 headers on an LT1. Whats the deal with that?

Go with long tube or stick with stock exhaust manifolds. Shorties have shown little or no hp improvement on other forum members cars. I doubt shorties add much hp at high rpm either. because LT1s have very good exhaust manifolds.

Someone please post dyno test results if they have seen hp increase with shorties over stock manifolds with the complete exhaust system.
