Default How many miles before you change fuel filter?

I have gone 16,000 miles since I last changed the fuel filter on our '96 LT4. It runs perfect, and I'm of the theory, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I drove it 25,000 miles on the first filter. I looked high and low for this information. I looked in the FSM, and the owners manual. Nowhere does it even mention the fuel filter, much less a change interval. How far can you go before you have to change it?

You are correct..... no regularly scheduled maintenance. Some use
35K miles as a bench mark to change the filter....... some go double that.

I had to replace mine after 10,000. The engine started cutting out under load.

Fuel is going through numerous filtrations before it enters the rail fuel filter. In theory, the filter should not have to be changed. Time to check/clean the tank.

I don't know much about the Lt. But mine has 2 filters. Make sure you change both. One in tank.

I have no doubt the filter would have been good for 25,000 on a stock engine. But when you double horsepower you also double fuel needs. And as far as multiple filters, the sock on the fuel pump does nothing more than keep trash from getting in the lines. I'm with Ron, fuel filters are cheap maintenance.

Weather plays a major part in this, too.

If you live in a wet area, water will accumulate in the filter...

A rule of thumb? once a year... they're cheap.

My 87 has two in-line filters, one on the feed and one on the return.
