Default AC- FREEZE 12

Its gettiing HOT in Phoenix, other members on forum stated they were useing a product called freeze 12, had a buddy pick up 4 cans for me, he has a license and yes in some states a license is required, cost $7 per can, put vacuum on system and installed freeze 12 and am at this time getting 50 degree air, barrier hoses are not required on this product so its a direct replacement, so far by me I do reccomend this product to all other forum members. :jester :jester :jester :jester :jester

freeze 12 is a class 1 refrigerant and requires a license in all states.(federal law)
anyone cracking a system that has a class 1 refrigerant in it is required to have a 609 license and "appropriate equipment"(reclaiming equipment, documentation, proper hoses w/ shutoff 12" from the end, etc....)
a license is easy to get, but to be in compliance, you have to get the appropriate equipment. if the epa comes to inspect, and there is no equipment, big trouble.
even if you had bought 134a, which needs no license yet, by evacuating a r-12 system without the appropriate equipment, you are in violation of epa regulations. a zero pressure system even has to be drawn to a 4" vacuum for 5 minutes to be in epa compliance b/c of the properties of coolants.
the main complaint i'v heard on replacement coolants is that they may be flammable. many contain butane.
for an individual, i think the fine can be up to $10k. i'm not trying to be a bastage here, i'm just saying that you should watch what you post. :yesnod:

Granted, we're much cooler here, but I routinely run 38 to 44 degree vent temps with R12 at 80 degrees. 4 12oz cans is 3lbs and Freeze 12 is 80% R134. Assuming you got it all in, you may be overcharged and with some of the socalled dropins you need to reduce the charge anyway - you certainly need to with pure R134 (check the literature that came with the product, you may also need to adjust the cycling switch). If you are overcharged, reducing it will bring down the vent temps.

Hi skilawyer, I can pick it up at many places here in SoCal (without a license). I can't believe it is illegal to sell it without a license when so many places are carrying it.

No offense intended, just providing my experience.

I can't find it in Louisville anywhere. All I've found is an R134a compatible product called "Maxi-Cool" available at AutoZone. I've know a mechanic who's got a license if it ever creeps this far out, though....

i don't doubt that people sell it without proper documentation, but
i think there is a reward for turning in a non compliant dealer. :D :D

edit- i am suprised that the non compliant people are in the republic of california though comrade!!!
